It is a
building complex constructed in 1631 and 1648 in the city Agra (India) on the
banks of the river Yamuna by the Moslem emperor Shah Jahan. This building did
in honor to his favorite wife Arjumand Bano Begum more known as Mumtaz Mahal
that daughter died in the childbirth of his tenth fourth. His construction
needed 20.000 workers. The Taj Mahal is one of the most beautiful examples of
Mogul architecture.



In 1983 it
was recognized by the UNESCO as heritage of the humanity and renowned one of 7
marvels of the world. At the end of the 19th century some sectors of the Taj
Mahal were very deteriorated for lack of maintenance. During the epoch of the
Hindu revolt (1857) it was damaged by British and official soldiers of the
government, which were starting semiprecious stones of his walls. In 1908 there
was ended his restoration arranged by a Britisher viceroy, Lord Curzon, who
also ordered the manufacture of the great lamp, which was similar to other one
who was in a mosque of Cairo. Curzon made remodel also the gardens to the style
Englishman that still today they preserve.
