Iemanja

Hello, I'm Camila and I am going to speak to you of a very tipical legend and tradition of my country (Uruguay) and of the other countries like Brasil. It treats of that, every two of february, the atlantic coasts of south america fill with fanatics and onlookers. Is the day of the Iemanja deity of the sea.
All the years, the beaches of Montevideo are scenes of rituals and gifts that the onlookers deliver to Iemanja. To the get dark the deity takes them, that is to say, are they are swallowed by the sea, but, as it counts the legend, the deity only pick up the presents that she think that are requied to our life. Since in this zone only rich people live, they give jewels, money and other presents like this.
The next day the people go to the beach and see the presents that the Iemanja don't take it. This act teach to the people that we don't need wealth for live.
The children take the presents that are in the sea for fun. They have never managed to find the objects taken by Iemanja.
