Patrick´s Day, is a cultural and religious celebration of irish people on 17th March.

WHO WAS PATRICK?

He´s the foremost patron saint of Ireland. He lived during the fifth century, borned in Roman Britain. He grew up in Roman Britain. He was captured by Irish raiders and taken to Ireland as a slave when he was a young adult. After some years he returned to his family. He later returned to Ireland as a missionary.

WHAT DO PEOPLE DO?

Saint Patrick´s Day is celebrated in many places, especially in Ireland.

It´s a day in which children can eat a lot of sweets and adults can enjoy beer at a local pub. Many restaurants offer Irish food or drink, for example: Irish chocolate mousse cake, Irish coffee, Irish stew, ...

COLOR GREEN

The color of St. Patrick was not actually green, but blue! In the 19th century, green became used as a symbol for Ireland. In Ireland, there is plentiful rain and mist. The beautiful green landscape was probably the inspiration for the national color.

Wearing the color green is an act of paying tribute to Ireland. It´s said that it also brings good luck, especially when worn on St. Patrick's Day.
