Giralda is the name given to the bell tower of the Cathedral of St. Mary of the See of Seville in Andalusia (Spain). The lower two thirds of the tower correspond to the minaret of the old mosque of the city, from the late twelfth century, in the Almohad period, while the upper third is superimposed on Christian era construction to house the bells. At its peak a ball called barrel on which the Giraldillo statue that makes the functions of vane and that was the European Renaissance sculpture largest bronze and by extension came to denote whole tower is rising, as if While the original name given to be built in 1568 was Victorious Triumph of the Faith, or simply Fe, it did not take long to begin to be called Giralda (literally "rotating"), possibly by the end of the century. Such is reflected in written records as the imaginary trip Villandandro Agustin de Rojas (1603) or at the very Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes, who lived in the city since 1588. The tower began to be called, then, Giralda tower and what it was then became Giralda in Giraldillo. Córdoba
