A total of 602 people died in a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.8 recorded on Saturday in the province of Manabi, in northwestern Ecuador, reported by the authorities. The death toll, updated on Friday, exceeds that of the 2007 earthquake in Peru and Ecuador converts of the deadliest of South America from Colombia in 1999, which killed more than 1,000 people. In addition, authorities in Ecuador claimed that 130 people are still missing and more than 25,000 homeless. There are also thousands of injured and displaced.
